Can erosion be stopped on an island?
Middle Island is owned by Falklands Conservation and was badly burned by fire a few decades ago. The fire left the peat soil with no vegetation to protect it from drying out and blowing away. Falklands Conservation has attempted to halt this process by planting a barrier of tussac grass on the eroded land. With help from Georgia Seafoods and the Conservation group of British Forces South Atlantic, volunteers planted grass over five days.
