Maps can be used for more than directions. Town planning, military, surveyors and environmentalists all use maps to track and compile data.

To draw attention to all applications maps are used for in the Falkland Islands, the Environmental Department hosted a 'Map Day'. Stalls showcasing hand-drawn maps and computer models, as well as offering interactive activities, set-up in the town hall on November 29. Throughout the afternoon a series of talks were given from members of the community who use mapping in their everyday lives including drone surveying, wildlife tracking and distributing water.

Falklands Radio was there and spoke to some of the participants.

This programme was broadcast on Falklands Radio on December 3, 2020.
