Main Job Purpose:

• To manage, lead and develop the technical and human resources of Falklands Radio for the purpose of providing a broadcasting service which aims to inform, entertain and educate the Falkland Islands’ population

Responsibilities:
• To set and implement relevant business plans which lay out clear long and short-term objectives and demonstrate innovative strategies for the development and programming style of a local and professional radio service.

• To set and monitor a budget for the implementation of the business plans agreed with the Media Trust, making the most effective use of available resources and in conjunction with the Media Trust’s accountants, establish sound financial systems, records and controls.

• To ensure management of, and lead a team of full-time and part-time along with freelance presenters and to ensure that all technical matters related to the provision of a professional radio service are addressed to maximum potential within the scope of available resources.

• To assist and guide the staff of Falklands Radio to enhance the knowledge and enjoyment of listeners through research, development and communication of news stories and insightful analysis of news events covering the main political, economic and social events of the day.

• To assist and guide the staff to develop and implement musical or other programmes to a professional standard and that reflect the interests and enthusiasms of a broad range of listeners.

• To identify staff training needs and in consultation with the Media Trust implement a training programme.

• To understand and support the needs of Camp and other remote audiences in respect of the provision of an Island-wide service.

• To interpret and implement agreements in respect of BFBS or other technical maintenance contracts, copyrights and other contractual matters.

• To employ and develop a robust marketing strategy to promote and develop the reputation of the Station in the local community.

• To ensure the upkeep of premises and its content and to ensure safe working methods and practices are adopted.

• To implement any other duty or task that the Media Trust may, from time to time, reasonably request.

Requirements

Falkland Islands Radio Service Mission Statement:

To provide a radio broadcasting service which aims to inform, educate and entertain the Falklands population, whilst stimulating debate, providing news and any other programmes that may be of local interest.

Essential Qualifications/Experience

•A minimum of five years’ experience in staff management.
•A minimum of five years’ experience in setting and implementing financial budgets and business plans.
•Proven skills and experience in leadership, innovative development and strategic thinking.
•A minimum of A ‘level or similar educational qualifications or 3 years of relevant experience in the field of journalism.
•A good standard of computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office basic programmes.
•Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience

•Three years’ experience in journalism, radio journalism or radio broadcasting.
•A full driving licences.
