Bill Chater wins his third medal at the Orkney Island Games in the men’s 720 head-to-head knockout.
The semi-final saw Chater face an old foe, Daniele Rolfi of Aaland, who denied him the gold in the 2023 Guernsey Games.
Things were tense in the Falklands camp with Chater down 4-0 to Rolfi. But, with his winning mentality Chater came back, knocking his opponent out.
“I always thought I was going to win it,” said Chater, “very weird feeling to be four nil down and still think you’re going to win.”
The final, against the Faroe’s Petur Hans Hojgaard, was no easy match with Chater finding himself taking the first and second sets, missing out on the third, but winning the fourth by two points.
“The first two, I was completely comfortable, but as soon as I was in reach everything changed. It got tight, I got shaky. The last two ends weren’t so good but fortunately his weren’t either so I just got across the line.”
