Hospital to have first ever independent inspection

The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley

An update on changes made since major data breaches is also promised.

The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley is commissioning its first “independently-arranged inspection.”

The hospital says it benefits from some oversight by the Ministry of Defence through “assurance visits in relation to certain services that are provided to the MoD.”

However, some areas of the hospital haven’t been inspected “as frequently as would typically occur in many countries.”

The inspection will be undertaken by a group of independent experts facilitated by the UK’s Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The UKHSA is not delivering the inspection.

In a statement released today, the hospital confirms the way it handles data will form part of the commissioned inspection and it intends to “release an update to the community on the changes that have been made since the previous data breaches shortly.”

The inspection, anticipated to take place at the end of the year, will focus on: the ambulance service, casualty, ward, intensive care, theatre, and the medical treatment overseas process.

Five questions will be addressed:

  1. Is it safe?
  2. Is it effective?
  3. Is it caring?
  4. Is it responsive to people’s needs?
  5. Is it well-led?

The inspection report will be made available to the public, according to the statement.
