Housing debt has also risen by ten thousand pounds since this time last year.
The figures were reported to the housing committee yesterday when it sat under the chairship of MLA Dean Dent for the first time, with Deputy MLA Cheryl Roberts also attending.
The number of people on the government housing list is 77, an increase of six people since the committee met in September of last year.
Government-owned properties in the contractor pool have increased by nine in the same period and now total 186.
FIG has also increased the number of homes it rents from the private sector and now has 30 private rentals in the contractor portfolio, compared to 28 properties in September. This gives a total of 216 properties allocated to the contractor pool.
In contrast, the local housing pool has decreased by two in the last five months and now totals 179. This was the same figure reported in January 2025 showing no increase in the local housing pool in 13 months, while over the same period the contractor pool has increased by 17 properties.
Housing debt has increased by almost ten thousand pounds in the past year rising to £175,059 from the £166,387 reported in January 2025.
In January 2025, this debt was split between 32 customers, while today’s debt is between 38 customers.
During yesterday’s meeting it was said there has been an “ongoing issue with the (debt) database” and it’s “being taken line-by-line to see what is debt and what isn’t.”
