Two silvers and a bronze are the Falklands first medals in the Orkney Island Games.
The Falkland Islands’ archery team has smashed it on their first day of competition securing not one but three medals.
Lousie Clarke and Bill Chater both won silver in the women’s and men’s 1440 Recurve, respectively.
After injury forced Mark Lewis to pull out in the last 45 minutes of shooting, Javier Lazo joined Louise and Bill to secure bronze in the team event.

Clarke, who won a bronze in the 720 Recurve in Gotland 2017, spent most of the day swapping with Guernsey’s Monika Komla between silver and bronze placing. But it was Clarke who stayed in the silver position for the last hour, ending with a score of 1082.
It was a similar story for Chater who teetered between the top spot and silver but ultimately lost out to the Faroe’s Hans Petur Hojgaard with a score of 1143.
Together with Javier Lazo’s 948, a bronze was secured by team effort.
The archery team secured the Falklands first gold medal in 24 years in the Guernsey 2023 Games in the Recurve Head to Head Team Knockout with Chater also securing a silver in the Individual Head to Head Knockout. One of the smallest sporting clubs in the Falkland Islands, the archery team have won at least one medal in every Island Games they’ve competed in.
