Hundreds of people attended the service today to remember the 13 people who lost their lives at sea last week.
The crew of 27 abandoned the vessel on Monday 22 July some 200 miles off the coast of the Falklands. It was reported an incident had led to uncontrollable flooding of the vessel.
Search and rescue attempts by helicopters were unsuccessful due to bad weather and two fishing vessels and the Falklands’ fisheries patrol vessel made their way to the location to assist.
The vessels rescued 14 people but tragically, nine bodies were recovered and four people remain missing presumed dead.
The service of remembrance held at the FIDF Hall was led by Port Chaplain of the Lighthouse Seafarers Mission, Maurice Lake.
In attendance were representatives of the fishing sector, government departments including the Maritime Authority, the Acting Governor, MLAs, and members of the community who joined together in singing hymns and observing a two-minute silence.
Books of condolence were available to sign and are available at the Mission Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 2pm.
