New general manager for Falklands Landholdings

Islander Paul Philips will take on the role from April next year.

Falklands Landholdings Corporation (FLH) said: “Paul has extensive knowledge of Falklands farming and business experience that will be a great asset. He is a familiar face in the farming community and has proven ability to adapt and prosper in the rural economy.”

Current general manager John Ferguson, who is due to retire next March, said he is delighted FLH will continue with a local GM at the helm.

FLH is comprised of four farms: Goose Green/Walker Creek, North Arm, and Fitzroy. The farms cover approximately 300,000 hectares, almost a quarter of the total farm land in the Falklands.

The main revenue comes from wool production, with FLH running 129,000 sheep. This is followed by meat, and a developing tourism branch.

FLH was set up as a statutory organisation to run the farms when the Falkland Islands Government purchased them from the Falkland Islands Company in 1991. It is headed up by a Stanley-based general manager and three farm managers.

After a handover the stewardship of FLH will be in Paul’s hands from April 2025.
