Uncontrolled flooding on the fishing vessel led to the crew of 27 abandoning the ship yesterday afternoon around 4pm.
The crew spent the evening in life vessels as rescue attempts by search and rescue (SAR) helicopters have been unsuccessful due to bad weather.
This morning it was announced the search area remains “out of limits for helicopter SAR operations”. However, two fishing vessels and the FPV Lilibet responded to the incident last night with the first vessel arriving on scene around 10am today to start rescue operations.
The Falkland Islands Government says SAR operations are being reviewed regularly with a view to resume as soon as possible.
The Lighthouse Seafarers Mission is looking for donations for the crew, which includes one female, in the form of clothing, toiletries and comforts.
Assistant Port Chaplain Leeann Harris said: “Anything that’s not needed at home will be gratefully freely received during this week, I’m sure.”
Mrs Harris says the Mission has most things covered including food and wifi access to make contact with loved ones but even old mobile phones would be welcomed.
Donations can be dropped to the Mission.
